IИVISIBLE
Photographic Project “Invisibles” – The Art of Camouflage and Mimicry This photographic project explores camouflage and mimicry in nature, both as adaptation strategies and as distinct aesthetic forms. Through a series of images taken in very different biotopes, we present a diverse range of animals that blend into their surroundings to the point of visual disappearance, deliberately blurring the line between subject and background. We have also captured hidden gazes that seemed to be watching us and silhouettes emerging from the chiaroscuro, a whole world so discreet… Mimicry thus questions our relationship to the visible.
In these photographs, the subject is not immediately identifiable: it reveals itself gradually, as the gaze lingers. This deliberately unspectacular approach invites slow and attentive observation, running counter to the overabundance of contemporary images. Our approach is based on a search for balance between naturalist observation and artistic photographic expression. The composition, natural light, and framing are carefully considered to respect the environment while creating a tension between abstraction and figuration. The image becomes a space for questioning where living things merge with matter—rock, leaves, ice—suggesting a continuity between the organism and its surroundings.
Through this photographic work, we aim to raise awareness of the fragility of ecosystems. What is discreet, hidden, or invisible is often what is most threatened. By revealing these silent presences, this project invites us to reconsider how we perceive and preserve life. This series is intended for both the viewer and the visitor-participant: it offers an immersive experience, based on discovery, doubt, and patience, where photography becomes a tool for revelation rather than demonstration, reflecting the experience of a nature photographer.
Northern paths
From Scandinavia to the far reaches of the Arctic, Stéphanie and David traversed these vast landscapes for several years, passing through Iceland and Greenland, discovering at every turn a diverse and contrasting boreal world, where the taiga gives way to the tundra, and volcanoes to ice. Here, a mysterious Great Grey Owl can be glimpsed behind every tree; further on, a Brown Bear moves through misty landscapes; elsewhere, an Arctic Fox roams the primeval lands while a Puffin appears on the horizon; over there, walruses bask on Arctic beaches and the Polar Bear reigns supreme as Lord of the Ice… “May our most beautiful encounters be humble testaments to the fragile beauty of a shared land, and may our dreamlike visions inspire the desire to protect it.”
